Brassinosteroid-mediated Changes in Root-knot Nematode Susceptible and Resistant Tomato Cultivars

چکیده
Plant-parasitic nematodes are one of the major pests, causing damage to almost all cultivated crops throughout the world. Present nematode control measures pose a threat to the environment; therefore, use of natural compounds is being emphasized to control these deterrents. 28-Homobrassinolide (HBl) is one such naturally synthesized compound that is ubiquitously distributed in plant kingdom. In the present investigation, uniformly sized seeds of susceptible (Pusa Ruby) and resistant (PNR-7) tomato cultivars were treated with different concentrations of HBl. After germination, under controlled conditions seedlings were inoculated with infective juveniles of Meloidogyne incognita. Morphological and biochemical parameters (antioxidative enzymes/ antioxidants) were assessed 72h post-nematode inoculation. Results asserted alterations in plant growth as well as in biochemical parameters post nematode penetration. But supplementing the plants with HBl improved the plant growth and ameliorated the activities of defensive enzymes and antioxidants.

Susceptibility Assessments of Tomato Genotypes to Root Knot Nematodes, Meloidogyne javanica
Root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne spp., are one of the important plant parasitic nematodes of tomato in the world. The most suitable control method of plant parasitic nematodes is the use of resistance sources and tolerant cultivars. In the earlier studies, the results showed thatonly 2% (19 out of 537 varieties) were resistant and tolerant to the root knot nematodes. In the supplementary studie...
متن کاملReaction of Different Pepper Cultivars to Two Species of Root- Knot Nematodes (M. Javanica and M. Incognita)
Root knot nematode is one of the important plant pathogens that causes damage to many crops, including greenhouse crops. Pepper is an agricultural crop which its cultivation has increased in recent years, especially in greenhouses. Most of the adopted management methods for this nematode have not met the required efficiency. In this study, reaction of some pepper cultivars (Elmina, Tuvana, Chal...
متن کاملEffects of the Mi-1 and the N root-knot nematode-resistance gene on infection and reproduction of Meloidogyne enterolobii on tomato and pepper cultivars.
Meloidogyne enterolobii is widely considered to be an aggressive root-knot nematode species that is able to reproduce on root-knot nematode-resistant tomato and pepper cultivars. In greenhouse experiments, M. enterolobii isolates 1 and 2 from Switzerland were able to reproduce on tomato cultivars carrying the Mi-1 resistance gene as well as an N-carrying pepper cultivar. Reproduction factors (R...
متن کاملThe effects of Nematode Infection and MI-Mediated Resistance in Tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum) on Plant Fitness
The Mi gene in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a single, dominant resistance (R) gene that confers resistance against several species of insects and root-knot nematodes. This study examined the impact of root-knot nematode infestation and the plant growth and reproduction of near-isogenic tomato cultivars with and without Mi. The objectives of this experiment were to examine the potential fitn...
